Bainbridge Island Real Estate
Bainbridge Island is a picturesque community that takes pride in providing the best of small-town living for its residents. Even though the island is approximately the same size as Manhattan, its population of 23,000-plus residents gives it a distinctly rural atmosphere. This scenic countryside so close to downtown Seattle, only a 30-minute ferry ride, offers a scenic retreat away from the bustle of the city.
With its rich history, friendly residents and very low crime rate, Bainbridge Island provides endless opportunities for the young and young at heart. Explorers made their way to the island more than 200 years ago, and they were soon followed by farmers, fishermen and loggers. To this day, agriculture is still an important part of everyday life for Bainbridge Island residents. Farms dot the landscape and fresh island produce is highly sought-after at local farmers markets, especially strawberries in the early summer. The Bainbridge Island Vineyards and Winery uses its own estate-grown grapes to produce its popular selection of house and specialty varieties.

What aren’t private farms on Bainbridge Island are often public access parks and preserves. The Bloedel Reserve, which was developed on a former private estate, is a 150-acre nature preserve with gardens and wooded areas that are home to many native species of plant and animal life. Bainbridge Island also has 21 parks and facilities that offer green spaces, picnic areas, an aquatics center, senior center, fishing piers, natural gardens, athletic fields and other services. These parks include Strawberry Hill, Battle Point, Ferry Dell and Grand Forest metro parks and Fay Bainbridge and Fort Ward state parks.
Residents are also actively involved in various community activities and events including the Bloom Garden Tour, Rotary Club’s Rummage Sale & Auction, Bainbridge Performing Arts programs, the Scotch Broom Festival, Chilly Hilly and the Grand Old Fourth, which is a traditional celebration for Independence Day. These and other activities provide the perfect excuse for getting together and enjoying the best of the island. Winslow, Bainbridge Island’s largest town, has a number of unique stores, antique shops, galleries and cafes. Students attend schools within the Bainbridge Island School District with approximately 90% of graduates continuing on to college. All of this and more is available to residents who choose Bainbridge Island to call home.
